Dharma Wanita Woven Bag Craft Activity: Improving Skills and Economic Independence

On January 15, 2025, Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) Faperta held a woven bag craft training activity attended by all members. This activity aims to improve the skills of the participants in making woven bags made from recycled plastic waste, as well as an effort to empower women in increasing economic independence. The event was held in the coffee building on the 2nd floor of the Faperta campus, with Mrs. Dwi Suci Sulistyaningsih from the Mari Berbagi Jember (KMBJ) Community as a resource person for woven handicrafts, who provided direct training to the participants. In this training, participants learned basic techniques in making woven bags that are not only useful as creative products, but also have high selling value. In addition, this training also emphasizes the principle of sustainability, by utilizing natural materials that are environmentally friendly. The Chairperson of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan, Mrs. Retno Susilowati M. Rondhi, in her speech said, “This activity is expected to have a positive impact on Dharma Wanita members, especially in terms of improving skills and economic independence. In addition, this woven bag craft product also has great market potential, so it is expected to be a business opportunity for the participants.” Participants were also enthusiastic about the hands-on session, with many of them successfully making woven bags with attractive designs and quality. Several participants expressed their hope to be able to develop this craft business in their respective homes as an effort to increase family income. This craft activity is not just a training, but also a place to strengthen the relationship between Dharma Wanita members. With the spirit of togetherness, it is hoped that activities like this can continue to grow and provide broad benefits to the community.
